I love studying Dr. Adrian Rogers Studies. I have told you this before, but you can’t go wrong when the only answer you can fill in the blanks with is the Word of God.
It is not a “today’s idea” of what the answer should be or some other woman’s who has studied and is teaching. No. It comes right out of scripture. I will be using a lot of the material that he laid out for us. And you can follow if you wish. Go online to lwf.org and then go to the Discover Jesus Tab and scroll down to Bible Studies and then scroll further down and you will find How To Repair Your Broken Faith.
Adrian’s opening introduction is interesting and I want to share it with you.
“The school of faith may be a wonderful school, but sometimes we don’t make very good students. In the school of faith, our classroom is Life. The Bible is our textbook. Our faculty the prophets and apostles. But the Dean of the school of faith would have to be Abraham.”
Abraham remember was 75 when he was told to get up and leave home. We are told that Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. We get the two bold, typed words from Rom. 4:2-3.
Further on in verse 11, Abraham is called “the father of all them that believe.
We need to stop for a moment and think about this. Faith is huge. Adrian writes that Faith is of monumental, inestimable importance. And he is definitely correct. As I think about Faith, I know I falter all the time. My faith is very weak. Why is that? It is because it is not exercised. When you exercise some thing over and over again, you become excited about what you are doing.
Adrian gives seven reasons why faith is so important. Here is the first one.
Faith is the distinguishing mark of the Christian.
The early church was called believers before they were called Christians. “Believers” – that is the distinguishing mark of a Christian that he or she by faith believes God.
To exercise faith is our chief duty.
In John 6:29, Jesus is speaking. “The work of God in your life is to believe in Him whom God sent.
Is this the work in your life? Do you have opportunities to “believe” God in what He has said to you or done or will do, for you? IF…. believing God is our chief duty then…………….
Unbelief (the opposite of faith) is the supreme evil.
No greater evil than unbelief???? Are you sure!!! We would tend to believe that things like murder would be worse but Adrian digs deep for us and this is what he finds.
1 Cor. 15:21-22.
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22) For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” The man by whom death came was Adam. The man by whom salvation came was Christ.
He continues, “all the sins man has committed since that time trace their roots back to that deadliest sin of all, unbelief.”
He says that the deadly progression was begun when Eve did not believe God. She fell into sin because of unbelief. People today don’t go to hell because they steal, lie, or commit adultery, for those sins have been paid for with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Most people have it exactly backward. Ask any person on the street who is not a Christian how they are going to be admitted into Heaven. They will answer that they think/hope their good deeds will, by the time they die, outweigh their bad deeds. Those bad deeds – if they reach some nebulous tipping point, will send them to hell. (Not them, of course – some other poor hapless person.) The Bible says, “No. To the contrary.”
John 3:18 reads, “He that believes on Him is not condemned, but he that does not is condemned already because he hath not believed.
We end this lesson with his final thought at this point. “The reason men and women go to hell today is they have not believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Tis next time then.
Example of why I love Dr. Rogers studies. You will note in all of the Scriptures I have printed out above, the bold words were the empty spaces that we are to fill in and the only way to fill them in is to find the Word that is being talked about. There is no question as to whether the answer pertains to me or to you, because it simple DOES. Again. You can pull up the study and follow along with me. I would encourage you to do so. mh
