This was this morning. It is for my Christian friends. Read it my friend and be blest. Here is Spurgeon’s writing…….
“There are many ways for Christians to be wide awake. Let me strongly advise one method, and that is to talk about the ways of the Lord.
“As Bunyan’s Christian and Hopeful journeyed toward the Celestial City they said, ‘to prevent drowsiness in this place, let us fall into good discourse.’ Christian enquired, ‘Brother, where shall we begin?’ Hopeful answered, ‘Where God began with us.’ Then Christian sang a song. (song not included here)
“Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone are likely to grow sleepy. Keep Christian company and you will be awake, refreshed, and encouraged to make quicker progress on the road to heaven. As you have fellowship with other believers, let the theme of your conversation be the Lord Jesus. Let your eye of faith be always looking to Him. Let your heart be full of Him. Let your lips speak His worth. Friend, live near the cross and you will not sleep.
“Work with a deep sense of heaven’s value. If you remember that you are going there, you will not sleep on the road. If you realize that hell is behind you and the devil is pursuing, you will not linger. Would a murderer sleep with the avenger of blood chasing him and the city of refuge ahead? Numbers 35:6
“Christian, will you sleep while the pearly gates are open, and angels are waiting for you to join them, and a crown of gold awaits your head? Oh no, in holy fellowship continue to watch and ‘pray that you may not enter into temptation’. Luke 22:40” (end of devotional)
What a peaceful devotional and full of such ripeness for conversation. How many friends do you have that you would invoke a discourse regarding your Lord and Savior? I have a large majority that I would not. Some believe they are christians, doing what God has given them to do. They are NOT. Others walk the rail – one foot on each side. That way, no one gets hurt with the conversation but also…..that way, part of the conversation is a lie or isn’t had at all.
Stay with Christians in your life – let the others go. Oh yes, we must continually work to enlighten hearts and minds but also, there is a time to recognize you have said or done all you can, so wipe the dust from your feet and move on, always keeping yourself with your eyes fixed ahead of you on the Goal.
“And whoever will not receive you nor “hear your words” (my quotes), when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!” Matt. 10:14,15 (Jesus was the speaker of these words)
The “Goal”. “Brethern, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.” Phil. 3:13-16. (Paul was the speaker of these words)
Striving for that “Goal” always.
