The dust from 2018 is beginning to fade in the past. The problems, the declining health, the decisions made that had repercussions which fell and continue to fall like dominos, the hurts that have piled up, the mistakes made, the times God has seemed far away in the distance…………and yet, He has been right there and we didn’t even think it, feel it, or actually know it.
One evening this past week, Od and I were in the living room, rocking. It seemed that the Lord was sitting there with us. I talked with Him. I told Him I wanted to ask Him for a special “gift” for this coming year. I thought and thought about that……..what would I ask Him if He was in reality, standing right here in the middle of my living room waiting for my request? What would you like to ask the Lord? What would be the one thing that you would covet from Him for 2019?
I could ask Him for “things”, or a “thing”. I could ask Him simply to watch over my family and meet their care needs that only He could meet. Too general though. I wanted something specifically geared to me. It didn’t take too long to figure out what I wanted. I want…. Wisdom – – God’s Wisdom – – for the coming year.
Wisdom covers a multitude of territory. It also leads in the right direction. Wisdom is needed in my life in 2019. What would you like to receive from the Lord? What “Gift” from His hand would make the most out of your life in 2019?
Do you remember Lucy Maude Montgomery? She wrote Anne of Green Gables. She wrote an interesting question …….
“Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”
With the New Year fast approaching there is hope for what is to come and thankfulness for what has passed. Our focus needs to be on God’s Word – – His leading – – His direction – – His Wisdom.
There are nine pieces to the Fruit of the Spirit. We need each piece of that fruit in our lives daily, exercising it to the hilt, some days some of it more than others.
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness……..and the biggie……….self control.” (Gal. 5:22, 23)
I want to leave you with the Word to whet your appetite for exactly ….that…...the Word! Here are some of my favorites to take into your New Year.
Isa. 43:18,19,,,,,”Do not call to mind the former things nor ponder things of the past. Behold, I am doing something new.”
Mark 11:25,26…..”And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Jere. 29:11…..”I know the plans I have for you. They are plans for good and not for evil. Plans to give you a hope and a future.”
2019 is on it’s way. Will be here very soon. What will you do with the year? The same old stuff? Or will you guide those eyes of yours more fully to the Lord, His will, His way……..and His wisdom for you…..It is up to you!!
Some say we are in the land of the living going to the land of the dying. But it is actually quite the opposite IF you are a Christian. We are in the land of the dying going to the land of the living. There are two roads. Each take a different path, a different will, a different idea as to how to live. All of that…….the decisions you make, the way you live your life all adds up to when you get to the fork in the road and which turn in the road you take. By that time your decision has already been made by your actions through each of the years that have gone on behind you now. Your choice will have been made already for you. Which turn will you make……………….in the end!!
Love..Joy..Peace…………..May they be yours and mine in 2019!! I pray so.
