The Book of James….so interesting

You know this particular “James” was the half-brother of our Lord Jesus.  Isn’t it interesting!!!!  In John 7:5 we read, “And even His brothers did not believe in Him”.  Just prior to this it almost seems that they were taunting.  It reads: John 7:3…………..

3)”His brothers therefore said to Him, ‘Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4) For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world”.  Then verse 5….”And even His brothers did not believe in Him”.  Isn’t this interesting!!!  Just like today, isn’t it!!

But over in 1 Cor. 15:7, we read: After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.”  Paul is writing here and tells all those whom Jesus saw after His resurrection.  He specifically mentions James.

We do not read any where that “His brothers” were at the crucifixion. But now we read that AFTER the crucifixion, James and the Lord spoke.  I wonder.  What did they talk about?

Something very worthwhile happened some where, some how, some way with James, because the whole theme of this book is that genuine faith results in righteous living.  True faith – real faith will show itself in righteous living, not “good” living.

Good people show forth good “stuff” but faith, real faith is hooked up to us differently. Faith goes way behind the level of doing good because faith is never involved with “good”.  It is genuine. You do not “skim the cream” off the milk so as to speak.  Faith is genuine – through and through and through and is shown at every level of life and in every step taken and in every decision made.

James seems sold out to Jesus Christ.  He has a very famous statement which he makes: “Faith without works in dead”.  How did he come across the adamantness of his speaking! He goes on to teach us strongly about trials.

I’ll pick up on this in my next writing.  I want to share with you what I learn in James.  It is a little book but dynamic in every sentence and thought that James has.

James began with being a non-believing person – then he was shot out of a canon and full of F..A..I..T..H.  How did it come about?  How can we become like James in 2018….almost 2019!!

Til next time.
